Everyone once and a while this needs to be done again but at least it gets me back and running almost instantly without cause me to loose any work. My current quick fix as of right now is in task manager when you try to end the task for dwm.exe a prompt shows up saying doing so might shut down the pc and gives you two options, "shutdown" and "cancel", by picking shutdown the program closes without actually shutting off the PC, the process shuts down as expected and immediately restarts acting the proper way it should be. Going to try a windiso right now and report back when i can. OP, don't bother reinstalling if you're gonna use the same version of windows. "fuck Windows these updated are fucked again" The only thing we have in common is our windows versions for all 3: windows 10 20h2 v19042.928 I honestly am a bit relived because my build is fairly new at 1.5 months or so.
I did that last night and the issue is still occurring on 20h2 v19042.928Īt first i was thinking "fuck AMD their drivers are fucked again" but a friend of mine and now OP are both running Intel CPU and NVIDIA GPU. The issue is currently happening right now, with desktop window manager and client server runtime process both sitting on between 40 and 70 percent usage.ĭon't bother reinstalling windows. Installing the latest RX480 GPU Drivers (21.4.1) This issue occurs nearly all the time and is exacerbated by anything that draws on screen (like stretching explorer widows or thumbnail generation on YouTube videos or anything. Using the default GPU drivers (2017 i think) that comes with windows the issue happens much less frequently.
this is a clean install of windows I'm running now.Īll of these stuff is new and the issue started maybe about a week ago. ROG B550-F-Gaming (updated to the latest bios just yesterday)įirstly. I just now created this account because i too suffer from the same issue.ġ6GB DDR4 3200 (running at 3200MHz, D.O.C.P enabled in the bios)(tried without DHCP)ĥ600X (not overclocked. Also I do run a triple screen setup but always have since the pc was built (about 2 years) without these issues, if that matters.ĬPU: LGA 1151 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8500 CPU 3.00GHz If anyone can help me in this insanely frustrating issue before resorting to a windows reinstall it would really save me. This whole process speeds up and slows down depending on how much I am using the PC but the memory is never loss. Its almost like dwm.exe is storing up the data from all the little things I do but then not dumping them when the information is no longer needed. I ran system troublers and virus scans, CPU and GPU temps are normal, airflow is normal.
Messed around with power settings and personalization. I reinstalled my driver for my GTX 1070 straight from Invidia's web site.
Update windows 10, update display drivers, all the drivers in fact just to be sure. I'm not even talking about gaming, just everyday school online school work and using chrome eventually after only one hour will all 16GB of my ram belongs to dwm.exe leading to an unavoidable crash.
To get to the point, dwm.exe has been drawing in all my memory as I use my PC throughout the day as well as an abnormal amount of GPU, about 35%.
I've had this issue for about a week now an no level of searching has given me an answer.
